ASSESSOR-RECORDER JOAQUÍN TORRES ANNOUNCES NEW OFFICE PHONE NUMBER AND CUSTOMER SERVICE UPGRADES

 

On Monday, April 29, the Office of the Assessor-Recorder's main office phone line will transition to

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Beginning Monday, April 29, the Office of the Assessor-Recorder will transition to a new main office phone number, 628-652-8100. For the next 12 months, constituents who call the Office’s prior phone number will automatically be transferred to our new line.  

 
As part of this transition, the Office is instituting three key upgrades to improve the experience that San Franciscans have when reaching out to us via telephone.  
 
  • During periods when callers are facing longer than usual wait times, constituents will now have the option to pick whether they want to remain on hold and wait for the next available staff member or leave a voicemail and request a call-back. 
  • In partnership with SF311, the Office is improving our after-hours service. Constituents who call-in outside of regular business hours will have the option to be directly transferred to 3-1-1. From there, 3-1-1 triages questions and issues, takes down contact information, and transmits the information to our Office so that we may provide assistance—eliminating the need for constituents to call our Office back during business hours for non-urgent items.  
  • Lastly, constituents will now be able to select their preferred language option immediately upon calling the Office, streamlining the process for monolingual residents to speak with the appropriate staff member. 
 
“We know your time is valuable. The ongoing changes we’re making in how we serve the public seek to make your experience more convenient and efficient, during office hours and after, whether you’re walking through our front doors, reaching us online or calling in,” said Assessor-Recorder Joaquín Torres. “With options to request a call-back rather than waiting on hold if all of our staff are assisting other constituents, increased language accessibility and direct forwarding to our partners at SF311 after-hours, these new upgrades will benefit the over 21,000 constituents that call our Office each year seeking assistance on issues that are central to their personal finances and wellbeing.”  
 
 The implementation of this new main office phone number marks the end of a multi-year process of switching to a new phone-system technology, VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), which is more cost effective and allows the Office to create new efficiencies in responding to the significant number of calls we receive each day from the public. This work is in keeping with a citywide effort led by the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Technology to offer City departments new telephony solutions like VoIP that help meet today's business requirements for collaboration, shared office space, hybrid work capability and disaster recovery.  
 
“Focusing on how to deliver core public services better is especially important in this economic climate and I want to commend Assessor Torres for his leadership and partnership with us,” said City Administrator Carmen Chu. “Implementing VoIP reduces the cost of phone service and augmenting after business hours call service through 311 just makes sense. I want to thank the Department of Technology and SF311 for stepping up again and again to support the backbone services of our City.”
