Foreclosure Overview:
Since official real estate documents are recorded in our
office, we are able to monitor the number of notices of default and
trustee deeds recorded. Although San Francisco has had fewer
foreclosures than other areas in California, each home that goes through
a foreclosure represents a resident or family that may become
homeless. Single family residences account for 75% of foreclosures in
San Francisco. In 2010, notices of default recorded in our office have
declined 17% from 2009, while trustee deeds recorded have increased by
23% over the same period.
