2012 LEASED EQUIPMENT DECLARATION INSTRUCTIONS

2012 LEASED EQUIPMENT DECLARATION INSTRUCTIONS

California Revenue and Taxation Code require all lessors to report equipment out on lease in San Francisco County as of January 1, 2012, regardless of any assigned tax responsibilities. Please report all leased equipment including leases to public utilities (which may or may not be assessed by the State Board of Equalization), leases to public schools and free museums, and leases to other educational or charitable institutions. Lessors subject to ‘in lieu’ taxes, such as Financial Corporations, are included in the above requirement.

As part of our efforts to modernize and streamline our processes, we would prefer to collect reporting data on all leased equipment (Form 571-L, Part II, Equipment Out on Lease or Rent to Others) in electronic format.  Please go to www.sfassessor.org/, select “2012 Business Property Information” under “News & Events,” then select the “2012 Leased Equipment Declaration Instructions & Templates” links.

Please download the two (2) Templates and use this format to enter your data.  The 1st template is the 2012 Summary Leased Equipment Schedule showing the Total Cost of all leases, broken down by Year of Acquisition.  The 2nd template, Leased Equipment Detailed Report, is where you list the individual leases and other details.

Once both templates have been completed, please enter the total reported costs from the 2012 Summary Leased Equipment Schedule to Page 1, Part II Line 3 of your completed Business Property Statement (Form 571-L).  Then, copy both the 2012 Summary Leased Equipment Schedule and the Leased Equipment Detailed Report, to a CD-Rom.

Please attach the CD-Rom, all schedules, and relevant documents to the completed 571-L and return them to our office.  If you have any questions, please contact us at (415) 554-5531 or email us at askle@sfgov.org.  Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
